Welcome To Sesame Flyers International 'You Can Count 2010' Campaign

Anyone who’s made it out of kindergarten can count, but many of us choose not to. We ignore the numbers that tell us that our community is struggling. We lose sight of the fact that what we do has tremendous value, and we forget that we have a lot to offer that can make a world of difference in the lives of others. Sesame Flyers International is here to remind you of these important facts, and to invite you to contribute to our first-ever fundraising campaign, YouCanCount2010.
 
 You don’t have to be a millionaire to be a philanthropist. There are all kinds of things you can do that can make a tremendous difference in the lives of others. Here are some ways in which your community is counting on you:
 
Participate in the U.S. Census. The Census is used to generate statistics and determine community needs. East Flatbush and Canarsie have historically had very poor response rates to the Census, meaning that we lose out on our fair share of over $400 billion federal dollars for things like new schools, hospitals and services in our community. By responding to the Census, you make it easier for Sesame Flyers to secure government support to benefit the community.
 
Volunteer your time. Young people need role models and positive examples that let them know that through hard work they can achieve their goals. As a socially-responsible community member, you are living proof of that fact. So come and visit our programs as a guest speaker, tutor, or lend your professional expertise or talent to nurture and guide a young person.
 
Donate goods, services or unwanted items. We have an ongoing need for Items like office and art supplies, gently used clothes, books and unwanted CDs and DVDs. We use these items in our programs and distribute them to people in need. Contact one of our Beacon sites and inquire about the Friends and Family Program.
 
Find out if your employer has a charitable giving program. These are difficult financial times, but many companies are still contributing to charitable causes through grants programs, sponsorships and matching gifts programs. Inquire about your employer’s philanthropic efforts and pass the information on to your friends at Sesame Flyers.
 
Become a Member of Sesame Flyers. Join the growing number of community members and businesses who have made a pledge to support the work Sesame Flyers. No dollar amount is too small to make a difference! Donor Members also receive a range of benefits, including merchandise and discounts on events.
