No one is perfect. Things rarely go according to plan. Accidents
happen. Mistakes happen. Disasters happen –as we know all too well
from the financial crisis, the earthquake in Haiti, the tragic
shooting in Arizona and other recent calamities. This is why most,
if not all, of life’s most valuable lessons have something to do
with persistence. The ability to persevere; the willingness to press
on in the face of difficulty; the resiliency to overcome barriers
and solve problems; the courage and resolve to bounce back and not
only survive, but to become stronger in the face of adversity. These
are the attributes that separate the successful from everyone else.
The honorees at Sesame Flyers’ Second Annual Scholarship Awards Gala

Nick Perry, Jean Alexander, Eleanor Bernard and Corey Pegues
- are living examples of what it means to be persistent. In their
professional and community work, these individuals have been strong
not just for themselves, but for countless others.
Please join us on Friday, May 20, 2011 at the Brooklyn Children’s
Museum as we celebrate the accomplishments of these Community
Pillars, honor our Parent of the Year and Employee of the Year, and
present scholarships to five deserving students. We will also learn
lessons of perseverance that will inspire us to overcome the
challenges in our own lives and make our community a better place
for everyone.
