PUTTING IT TOGETHER!!!
BY CAROLYN DIXON (ACTIVITY SPECIALIST) & SIMONE WARNER (PROGRAM DIRECTOR)

PICTURED CLOCKWISE: ANALEE MILES, DEANNA POLIN, MIA MATHIEU & MALIA GEORGE

Ms. Dixon opted to have a few of the third to fifth graders create puzzles during one of their recent arts & crafts activities.

Making the puzzles was an activity designed to broaden the participants’ minds and expand their creative potential. It was shocking to realize how many participants did not know what puzzles were! Through this activity, the children were able to express themselves through art and have fun while doing it.

Analee Miles (3rd grade participant) was able to explain the process of their puzzle making. “We drew a picture of anything we wanted our puzzle to look like. We then glued the picture onto a piece of cardboard. Then we drew puzzle shapes over the picture and cut the pieces out.”

Analee also shared that she liked this activity because it was fun to make the puzzles, cut them out and then put them together.

SESAME FLYERS WALK FOR A CURE

Every October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month Sesame Flyers joins thousands of men and women in the fight against Breast Cancer. This year was rainy but rain or shine, it will not stop our drive and determination to make an impact. We packed healthy lunches for people in attendance and performed a featured dance for all in attendance. We look to continue to walk and support this cause for many years to come.

LIMBO CLASSES AT SESAME FLYERS

Sesame Flyers is welcoming Limbo Dance and traditional Caribbean dance back to the Cultural Center on Church Avenue. On Friday October 19th the clubhouse hosted Brittney Kendra Jones of Caribbean Culture Creation, out of Trinidad, who is also a former UniverSoul performer, to teach Limbo.

We invite you all to learn the skill, craft, mechanics, and art of Limbo and tap into your flexibility. Come dance ready in comfortable clothing. Look out for a full list of upcoming traditional dance classes in our January edition of the Newsletter.

Bildersee Beacon had a Halloween party for the kids in the program on Tuesday October 29th. There was a costume fashion show, ice cream, cake, candy bags, pizza and cookies for the kids. On Halloween October 31st we also took the kids trick or treating to NYS Senator Roxanne J. Persaud’s District office. Senator Persaud represents the 19th Senatorial District and serves the following communities: Canarsie, East New York, Brownsville, Mill Basin, Sheepshead Bay, Bergen Beach, Marine Park, Flatlands, Mill Island, Georgetown, Ocean Hill and Starrett City.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING FROM THE SFI CENTER FOR FAMILY SUPPORT

“…so many things come to mind: health, life, shelter, family, etc. May we all remain with a grateful spirit and a heart of thanksgiving. Many thanks to our staff and fellow service providers who continue to make an impact on the individuals and families that we assist. Life is short, so let’s live it to the fullest, always in a spirit of gratitude!”

DECEMBER 3RD IS GIVING TUESDAY

Giving Tuesday is an annual world wide effort taking place after Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday to bring awareness to the power of giving. Please help to get the message out.

You can start a conversation with your family, friends, and co-workers. Ask how they give of their time, talent, or treasure. Celebrate their giving. Ask why it is important to give back to our community.

Also, let them know how a donation to Sesame Flyers International makes a difference. Encourage your friends to post to their favorite social media platform when they’ve made a donation of time, talent, or treasure using the #GIVINGTUESDAY hashtag.

Are there acts of philanthropy happening in the community? Coat Drive, Feeding the Homeless, Holiday gifts for families living in a shelter? Shine a light on the project as an example of #SOCIALGOOD.

Let the local businesses know about #GIVINGTUESDAY and ask how they intend to participate. For those interested in making a donation to Sesame Flyers International, you can use the following link:
